Ocean Acres straddles the Stafford–Barnegat township line, and the two do not agree about leaves. Stafford takes them loose, raked into a neat row at the curb the Sunday evening before; Barnegat takes loose or CLEAR bags only and issues violations for putting them out more than seven days early. Stafford splits the neighbourhood too — Zone 3 is everything east of and including Nautilus Drive and north of Neptune Road, on the third Monday; the rest is Zone 4 on the fourth. Which set of rules applies depends on which side of the line your house sits, and plenty of Ocean Acres residents have never had cause to find out.

Leaf removal and yard cleanup need no permit in Barnegat Township. What matters locally is the township's curbside collection calendar, which sets when piles may go out. New Jersey requires contractors performing home improvement work to be registered, and registration is confirmed against the state register before any crew is referred.
